MIS026-2

Gas lantern, converted to electricity, found in the old Museum where it had been for many years. As the label below indicates it is of the "Westminster" type made by William Sugg in 1875. It originally had four gas burners in the 18in body. Of no direct narrow gauge significance, it is of a style that was popular around public buildings and in the principal streets of London. When Henry Hadyn Jones went from Tywyn to attend the House of Commons he would have been surrounded by many of these lanterns on ornate cast iron posts or brackets.
